CERTIFICATE IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES

  • 1 YEAR (24 AUDITED CREDITS)

Designed for lay leaders and ordinary Christians who desire a well-rounded introduction to the Christian faith. Awarded on the basis of attendance and participation, the Ryle Certificate in Christian Studies (CCS) does not meet the requirements of an academic degree. Rather, the Ryle CCS is awarded in recognition of learning received by students who have undertaken a program of study in an organized course audit pathway.

The program consists of an audit of eight ten-week courses as listed below.  Each session runs for three hours and is held in-person (with a Zoom option) at Ryle Seminary’s Ottawa or Burlington campus. As a certificate awarded in recognition of engagement by an auditing student, each class is graded on a pass/fail basis. Auditing students are encouraged but not required to complete otherwise assigned readings, course assignments, or tests, but must attend at least five (50%) of class sessions.

The following courses must be passed by auditors wishing to receive the CSS:

    • One Old Testament course (either Pentateuch, Historical Books, Prophets, or Psalms & Wisdom Literature)

    • One New Testament course (either Gospels & Acts, Pauline Epistles, or General Epistles & Revelation)

    • Either Church History I or Church History II

    • Either Systematic Theology I or Systematic Theology II

    • Christian Ethics

    • Either Apologetics & Evangelism or God’s World Mission

    • Either Christian Formation & Calling or Christian Formation & Leadership

    • One elective from any course offered at Ryle Seminary, either from the Licenciate of Divinity or Licenciate of Christian Ministry programs.

What People Are Saying

“Ryle was the place I needed to be… After three years of study, I graduated knowing God more, loving God more, and having a passion to introduce others to Him and to love His church and serve His church.”

  • Rev. Jonathan Camiré

“Studying and being part of the community at Ryle has helped me stand firm in the biblical Gospel, to stay simple but faithful to the person and work of Jesus, and to trust the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer and the Word. The pastoral professorship of Ryle has equipped me to stand on God's Word in every sort and season of Gospel ministry; whether in leading my family, in preaching the Word, in sharing my faith with the believer and the curious, and in representing Jesus in the secular marketplace. I wholeheartedly recommend Ryle Seminary for its Bible and Gospel formation, in the shape and style of J. C. Ryle.”

  • Rev. Daniel Ativan

“It’s clear that Ryle courses are designed to exalt God and His Son and that its professors truly have a love for the Lord. I would recommend Ryle to anyone who wants to grow in their faith and knowledge of God and wants to minister to His people.”

“Named after the man himself, Ryle Seminary has strong roots in the Evangelical Anglican tradition, emphasizing broadly reformed, robust and thoroughly Biblical teaching. The lectures at Ryle have been very beneficial for my formation as an Anglican Minister, and will continue to be key for my growth in theological knowledge and love for the Lord Jesus Christ.”
