WHAT RYLE HAS TO OFFER
FIND WHICH PROGRAM IS BEST FOR YOU
LICENTIATE OF DIVINITY
-
3 YEARS (96 CREDITS)
The Licentiate of Divinity (96 credits) parallels a master’s degree in divinity and provides education in the full range of pastoral and theological disciplines, including biblical languages. Non-credit requirements include the English Bible Examination (written) and the Doctrine Examination (oral).
LICENTIATE IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES
-
2 YEARS (56CREDITS)
A fifty-six credit terminal graduate degree in theology and ministry, ordinarily requiring a bachelor’s degree as a prerequisite, but open to mature students, and designed for those involved in or pursuing pastoral ministry or missionary service but who do not intend to advance to further graduate studies in theology, i.e. to a ThM or PhD.
The foundational portion of the program includes 14 semester-long courses (42 credits) in Bible, theology and applied theology, while the advanced portion involves formal supervised training in preaching, pastoral ministry and worship in a local church setting (12 credits). Additional courses and/or examinations may be required by the student’s denomination or sponsoring organization.
CERTIFICATE IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES
-
1 YEAR (24 AUDITED CREDITS)
Designed for lay leaders and ordinary Christians who desire a well-rounded introduction to the Christian faith. Awarded on the basis of attendance and participation, the Ryle Certificate in Christian Studies (CCS) does not meet the requirements of an academic degree. Rather, the Ryle CCS is awarded in recognition of learning received by students who have undertaken a program of study in an organized course audit pathway.
The program consists of an audit of eight ten-week courses as listed below. Each session runs for three hours and is held in-person (with a Zoom option) at Ryle Seminary’s Ottawa or Burlington campus. As a certificate awarded in recognition of engagement by an auditing student, each class is graded on a pass/fail basis. Auditing students are encouraged but not required to complete otherwise assigned readings, course assignments, or tests, but must attend at least five (50%) of class sessions.
The following courses must be passed by auditors wishing to receive the CSS:
One Old Testament course (either Pentateuch, Historical Books, Prophets, or Psalms & Wisdom Literature)
One New Testament course (either Gospels & Acts, Pauline Epistles, or General Epistles & Revelation)
Either Church History I or Church History II
Either Systematic Theology I or Systematic Theology II
Christian Ethics
Either Apologetics & Evangelism or God’s World Mission
Either Christian Formation & Calling or Christian Formation & Leadership
One elective from any course offered at Ryle Seminary, either from the Licenciate of Divinity or Licenciate of Christian Ministry programs.
deepen your faith
Not looking for a degree but still want to enrich your spiritual journey? The new Certificate in Christian Studies (CCS) is ideal for those who want to grow in their understanding of the Christian faith in an informed but not necessarily academic environment.
